About me as a photographer

My name is Michiel Borgart

About me - Self portrait Michiel Borgart photographer Forever Images.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to get to know more about me. My name is Michiel Borgart, married to the most beautiful lady in the world, and I live in The Hague. One of my passions is photography, and in 2015, I took the exciting step of turning this passion into a profession with Forever Images. I'm grateful for following my heart, and in 2025, I launched Mpressions, where I started selling exclusive, unique photo prints.

Aside from being a photographer and a husband, I'm a Christian first and foremost. It is my heart's desire to follow Jesus and become more like Him. I dedicate my life, including Forever Images and Mpressions, to God every day. I love reading my Bible, and I find this part of Psalm 25 (verses 4 and 5) beautifully expresses my heart's desire and reflections: "Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day." [NKJV]. For this reason, I evaluate every request and assignment to ensure it aligns with my understanding of His way and truth. This process happens before, during, and after each shoot, including post-processing and delivery.

Why I Photograph

I find a sense of fulfillment when my photography captures what I envisioned. I call this Poetry with Light. This also includes the post-processing phase, where I fine-tune and polish a photo to match what I had in mind during the shoot or what I am inspired to create during editing. It brings me joy when someone appreciates something I've created. I feel delighted when someone sends me a photo of how a print is displayed in their living room or when they unbox the photo as a gift. This makes me feel both humble and grateful.

How I Work

It is essential for me to take the time and maintain a calm atmosphere during a shoot and the creation of the final result. During the preparation and the shoot itself, I enjoy spending time together to find the atmosphere and character we want to capture in the photo. After the shoot, I offer the opportunity to review the photo selection and discuss aspects of the post-processing together. If that's not convenient, that's perfectly fine, but I want my clients to know they have this option. The beauty of working together is that we can provide each other with more feedback, allowing me to better understand what someone is looking for.

I also love sharing my knowledge and experience by giving workshops. In these workshops, I help people gain a broader understanding of photography and their camera's capabilities. When participants apply what they've learned during the workshop, I find it wonderful to see them look at their subjects with a more creative eye, adding more character to their photos. It's rewarding to receive messages from participants long after the workshop, showing how enjoyable and valuable the experience was and how sustainable the knowledge gained is.

What I Photograph

There is so much beauty to capture in photography. I enjoy photographing a wide variety of subjects. I particularly love photographing people. That's why I chose to become a professional portrait photographer, fashion photographer, and wedding photographer. But I also find great joy in capturing landscapes, architecture, and animals.

Black and White Photography

I am passionate about creating black and white photos. Black and white photography is a unique art form with incredible possibilities. In my eyes, it's the pinnacle of photography.

Low Key Photography

Check out my low key photots as well. A low key photo, also known as a film noir photo, is generally dark with certain parts highlighted. These are high-contrast photos. The dark areas can be black, other dark tones, or shadows. Low key photography is often combined with black and white photography, but low key photos can certainly be in color as well. Low key photography is an art form within photography. It is a skill to balance between dark and light and capture complexity with simplicity.

The Location

There are many advantages to doing a shoot in my photo studio in The Hague. It gives me a high degree of control over elements like lighting and allows me to calmly seek the photos we have in mind. However, I also love photographing outdoors or at a location with specific characteristics or special meaning to someone. There's often the possibility to bring my mobile photo studio, allowing us to combine the unique features of the location with the technical capabilities of the studio. This, of course, requires extra time and effort but can be absolutely worth it. Additionally, there are photos I can only take outdoors, such as landscapes, architecture, or urban exploration, urbex photos.

Collaboration

As is the case with many great achievements, some of the most beautiful photos result from intensive collaboration. When different people are involved in a shoot, it often includes models, fashion designers, makeup artists (MUA), and stylists. Working with other professionals is incredibly enriching for me. We learn from each other, but more importantly, they inspire me tremendously. Authentic passion and quality are highly contagious to me. Therefore, I find it exciting to do a few shoots each year on a TFP (Time for Print / Time for Portfolio) basis. This allows us to create stunning photos together and get to know other professionals. If you are an experienced or studying fashion designer, model, makeup artist, or stylist, please feel free to contact me. I'd love to hear from you and explore whether we can create a beautiful photoshoot together on a TFP basis.

Business Analyst

Besides my passion for photography, I am also very happy to be active as a Business Analyst. Many find this combination unusual, but I realize I enjoy engaging both creatively and analytically. I believe there's a beautiful cross-pollination between these activities. You can find more information about how I fulfill my role as a Business Analyst with my company, Karpos Consulting.

What Others Think of Me and My Work

I always appreciate receiving feedback. It's essential input for me to further develop myself. Additionally, it's wonderful to receive recommendations, reviews, and reactions as part of the feedback, which I can use on my website and social media. These provide others with an impression of me and my work and are a token of appreciation for me. I feel proud and humble when I find out that I've made people who have placed their trust in me happy with both the photoshoot and the final result. This mutual trust is crucial for a beautiful and unique final result.
